Spinoccoli Pizza

We had some friends over for dinner about a month ago (it took us awhile to get this blogged!) and wanted to serve homemade pizza. I knew I wanted to make the Butternut Squash and Caramelized Onion pizza, but I wanted to find another pizza to try. I found this pizza from Annie's Eats and thought it sounded tasty.

Spinoccoli Pizza

Ingredients
Sauce:
1 Tablespoon butter
1 Tablespoon flour
3/4 cup heavy cream
1 clove garlic, minced
salt and pepper
6 Tablespoons Parmesan cheese

Pizza:
1 pizza crust dough
3/4 cup torn spinach leaves
1 cup small broccoli florets
2 oz mozzarella cheese
2 oz cheddar cheese

Directions
For the sauce: Melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook, whisking constantly, until bubbling and light golden brown, about 1 minute. Whisk in heavy cream and garlic and season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and bubbles. Remove from heat and whisk in grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
For the pizza: Spread the sauce over dough. Sprinkle on the spinach and broccoli and top with cheese. Bake at 450° for 13 minutes or until golden brown.

Amanda's Analysis:
This pizza turned out to be exactly what I hoped it would be. The sauce was very creamy and flavorful, there was just enough spinach and broccoli to round out the flavors, and the cheese topped it off nicely. I will absolutely be making this pizza again. I give Spinoccoli Pizza 6 spoons!

John's Jibba-Jabba:
Spinach and broccoli are probably not the most popular pizza toppings, but they sure worked on this pizza. Perhaps it was all the heavy cream and cheese that was used. Regardless of what went into this pie, it came out of the oven tasting great. If I am going to have to eat vegetables, this is certainly the best way to go about it. The Spinoccoli gets 7 spoons.
