We Scream for Ice Cream!

My brother got us a Cuisinart ice cream maker for a wedding gift and until now it has been sitting unused in its box. We finally broke it out this past week and decided to break it in with a simple vanilla ice cream recipe. This recipe came from the recipe book included with the machine. It was very easy to set up and was ready in only half an hour! We had a lot of fun making this and I think it will be used quite a bit this summer!

Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients
1 cup whole milk
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups heavy cream
2 tablespoons vanilla (or to taste)

Directions
Combine milk and sugar. Whisk together until sugar is dissolved.
Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
Pour into ice cream maker and freeze according to directions.

Amanda's Analysis:
This ice cream was a great treat and change from store bought ice cream. When it first came out of the machine it was very rich and creamy, and very good. However, after sitting in our freezer for a few days it got more "icy" and less rich, and still very good. I don't think I could eat a lot of this ice cream in it's more creamy state, so I liked the fact that it became less creamy over time. We ate this topped with crushed Oreo's and it was a tasty addition. Overall this was a great vanilla ice cream and I see us making it again, but I would like to experiment with some other flavors. I give this ice cream 5 spoons.

John's Jibba-Jabba:
This was certainly a cool treat on a hot afternoon. It was not quite as creamy as I would have liked and it crystallized over time in the freezer but those are minor quibbles. It could have used a bit more vanilla as well as it tasted more milky than I would have liked. Overall though it was smooth and fairly tasty. I give this cool one 5 spoons.
