The Giant Cupcake

I love baking and think nothing would be more fun than to be able to make beautifully decorated cakes for every occasion in which a cake is necessary (and let's be honest, for pretty much every occasion a cake is necessary) . I received this giant cupcake cake pan for Christmas and have been waiting for an excuse to use it. I finally decided to break it in and make a St. Patrick's day cake.

I made the cake using the Chocolate Pound Cake recipe that came with the pan and tried a butter cream frosting for the first time. Reviews of the pan online suggested baking the two halves separately due to the difference in cooking time. I baked the top half first and when I went to check on it, this is what I found:

I guess I should have taken that top rack out of the oven. After carefully removing the oven rack from my cake everything turned out OK.

This cake was fun to make and turned out pretty cute. Neither John nor I were too crazy for the taste of the cake, so when I make it again I think I will try a different recipe. I'll also try to remember to remove the top oven rack!
